The concepts were done in 3D as a proof of concept because of the number of material ideas and animations my idea demanded.
There were specific shots I wanted to capture based on the level blockout.
The concept was about entering a digital realm unlike any other. The Solus, shell-like and seemingly drone-like machines had some sense of beauty within.
This was a first pass concept for the character, SPEX and environment.
Initial sketch of SPEX, the being you encounter in this place. His shell was ripped, revealing the code within.
A lot of this shader exploration work later transferred to the actual materials.
Much of this work was passed off to the 3D artists to jumpstart.
